This book would not have been written without the insistence of my
aunt, Mary Gentry Paxton Keeley (No.84F-II 1), 1886 - 1986. She
was the first female graduate of the University of Missouri School of
Journalism and a lifelong friend of Bess Wallace, who later became
Mrs. Harry S. Truman.
Nearly forty years ago, Aunt Mary assigned
me the task of revising and republishing an out-of-date book, The Paxtons:
We are One! (1903), by Platte City, Missouri, attorney William McClung
Paxton (W. M. Paxton). Unbeknownst to me at the time, Mrs. Charles
(Adelaide Paxton) Doran completed such a mission in 1987 with her book,
The Paxton Family -- A Genealogy.
The Family History Library, part of The
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Salt Lake City, Utah, has
made its vast collection of American family records available. Many
other professional genealogists and libraries have helped make this work
possible.
Finally, I'm especially pleased to credit
Dr. Jane Mobley of Kansas City, Missouri, with assistance in organizing
and editing my paste-up drafts. She truly helped start this book on
the road to publication.

Frank Paxton, Jr. unexpectedly passed
away while he was proofreading the final version of this book.
The editing and printing were lovingly completed by his wife Millie,
with particular help from daughters Marjorie and Heather.
Frank worked on this book for more
than thirty years while also heading a multi-location corporation that
distributed hardwood lumber, vocational education supplies and
precision surveying instruments. He was a dedicated civic leader
serving on many city and statewide boards.
The family thanks Christie Kennard
for her involvement in the final editing and extensive fact checking
of the book. Thanks also go to Chris Ferguson for his help with
organizing the Confederate Paxton Civil War roster.
Additional information on the
development of the book and the Individual Numbering Code used is
available in the Acknowledgements pages of the book. |
